MONICA FOLEY

Born and raised in Melbourne Australia, Monica is a Graduate of the Swinburne University Creative Writing Masters program.  Managing to stave off death-by-Australian-creature, Monica moved to Los Angeles six years ago to be with her American husband.

Monica has racked up many screenwriting accolades and has cracked Coverfly’s Red List.  A prolific writer, Monica has recently completed another pilot script, “Later, Witches”, along with two other features co-written with her husband Mark this year.

If Monica isn’t writing or beat boarding a new idea, she’s most likely vacuuming up copious amounts of dog hair that her enormous Labrador sprinkles around the house every second of the day.  In other stolen moments, Monica is either painting a mural, sculpting a mysterious creature, or checking the calendar to see exactly how far away Halloween is.

Monica’s personal style of writing is often imbued with magic, charm, escapism, and fantasy.  Her first heartbreak was when she discovered there were never any fairies at the bottom of her garden.  She fondly remembers her teen nights, reading Harry Potter under her blanket with a lamp, desperately trying to get to the end of the chapter as her sister screamed torturously from the next bed over, demanding her to turn the lamp off.

Monica has since tried to keep the concept of magic alive; if only through her writing and through the art she creates around her.  She believes that just because we’ve become adults, living in a challenging world, we should still strive to stay in touch with our sense of wonder.
